Santino Moves to Msport and WINS!!!!!
FIRST AMERICAN TO WIN A MAJOR KARTING RACE IN THE UK
Last weekend saw the Super one debut for the American Cadet driver Santino Ferrucci
with the Whilton Mill based Msport Karting Team.
First qualifying in Pole position in his group but with the rain that preceded his
session covered up the young Americans true pace.
Final one would see Santino line up on 5th place on the starting grid and although
leading for most of the race, a last lap scrap demoted him to 3rd position but his
first podium of the year none the less.
Final 2 started with Ferrucci settling down for the long race with 5-6 steady laps
before his kart started to work. Santino then hit the front where he stayed for
most of the race dropping back only a few places which he soon made back in the
closing stages. The last few laps produced one of the races of the year with Ferrucci
holding off his opposition to take his first win on UK soil and we believe the first
victory for an American driver in Great Britain.
Santino’s new Msport team are delighted with there new star. Msport Team owner Keiran
Crawley said after the race "Not bad for our first Super One Cadet race, Santino
is a stunning driver in every way and will be hard to beat after this result. This
is our First Cadet Super One Race and our First Cadet win so we are all ecstatic.
We usually focus on KF3 in the UK so this was a dream start to our Cadet program."
Msport Karting has one space for a dedicated Cadet driver to finish the 2010 season;
we will also be racing in the Super cadet class for 2011 with a complete kart in
stock ready to test for any interested drivers.
Msport would like to thank Shoxx Performance for the engines.
Santino Junior Debut is HUGE Win in Florida
Santino Ferrucci, pictured on top of
the Podium at the Florida International Tour Race 1 in Orlando this past weekend.
It was Santino's first ever race as a Junior at age 11. His performance was amazing
as he qualified 5th, won the heat (lead by 8 seconds) and dominated the final in
the rain and cold. The final was 20 laps in wet and cold conditions as the temp
was 33 degrees! There was no celebration right after the win as frost bite extremely
close on his hands. Santino held on despite having no feeling in his hands for last
half of the race. A brave and incredible performance. Santino claimed it was the
toughest conditions he has ever raced in and the competition was incredible. He
felt very fortunate to hold off his fellow racers.
Santino Ferrucci United Kingdom Formula Kart Stars
This past weekend in the United Kingdom, United States Cadet Star Santino Ferrucci
was a force to be reckoned with. Santino made his first appearance at the famed
Wilton Mill Kart track in the Formula Kart Stars Finale. Fusion Motorsports Team
invited Santino back to the UK after two very successful races in the Formula Kart
British Cadet Championship.
Friday was the only day of practice and Santino’s first time on the course. Practice
was spent testing a few engines and dialing in a new kart. At the end of the day,
Santino and mechanic Neil Doran were in the top ten of the 49 kart grid.
The weekend would host a double format, the 3 heat format to be contested on Saturday
and a single qualifier format on Sunday. Santino was dialed in and had superb results
in the heats. In Heat 1 Santino was P6. With two minutes to go, it was a two kart
break away with teammate Tom Harvey. The duo would swap the lead several times in
the last two laps. Santino had the last lap lead and the pair went side by side
over the finish line, Santino getting second by .008. In Heat 2 Santino was P21
and had an impressive performance surgically carving his way to finish 3rd.
In the final Heat Santino started P14 and again moved his way through the field
to finish 4th. The start for the final was P5. In turn two the leaders
made contact causing Santino to fall back, leading to a disappointing 10th
place finish.
Sunday was another awesome day for the ten year old American would reach a new pinnacle.
The cadet qualifier landed Santino P1 of Group A. If Saturday didn’t get the cadet
fields attention, Sunday morning certainly did. The FKS announcer stated to the
crowd “Santino was the first American to transfer directly to the A main three races
ago at PF and now sits on Pole. I bet the American Champion will soon to be a Champion
here in the UK”. When the lights went to green, Santino led the field through turn
one a few laps later he found himself all alone, 3+ seconds in front of the field.
A pack of five would catch up with Santino and the battle began. When the dust settled
it was another great cadet race and Santino settled for fourth, a great performance
for the youngster from Connecticut. “All I can say is these kids are great and that
was a lot of fun. I wish I won but it is not easy against the best in the world”
stated Santino.
Team owner Dan Hazlewood was impressed, “Santino may not have had the finish he
desired but he is a front runner and the best American we have ever seen. Santino
will surely be a favorite in the British Championship the next two years and we
are pleased to have him as a part of our team.”
Next on Santino’s agenda are three WKA titles that are well within his reach. The
WKA wraps up its season in Charlotte November 6-8th. Fusion UK principal
Dan Hazelwood of England will team up with Chris Rock and give Santino his best
opportunity. Santino will then cross the pond for the UK Winter Series in preparation
for his quest for the crown jewel of karting, the British Cadet Championship.
